Thanks for the face lift, Lori! :) Hope this finds each of you enjoying the splendors of autumn and the beauty that surrounds us with the change of seasons. With Love, Changes in a Changing World Think of each of the seasons. In our world, we have to adapt to the changing seasons generally four times a year. Now think again -- which is your favorite? Is it the spring when Mother Nature is in full bloom? Or perhaps it is in the fall when the glory of color is so evident? Maybe you like the slow pace of summer or the frost in winter? Whichever season is your favorite, I am sure you can most likely think of some positive characteristics for each of the remaining ones. Spring turns to summer and summer fades to fall before mighty winter comes in. Each season brings with it changes and something wonderful. Just as seasons go through changes so do we. Sometimes we go kicking and screaming, but change is a fact of life. The French proverb reminds us that the only thing we can ever count on is that nothing stays the same. And neither do we stay the same. We change ... hopefully. {Note: I am referring to positive change in this article and not referring not to negative changes here. If you are aware that you have gone in a bad direction, the best thing you can do for yourself and loved ones is to get back on the path that leads to peace. Please seek diligent support if this is the case.} Change sometimes gets a bad rap. Have you ever had anyone say, "Yooouuu've changed" and made it sound like you were the pit of society? When you have made substantial changes for the better and someone says you have changed and they say it in a derogatory tone, know the statement is saying more about where that person is than where you are. It's about them and their discomfort with the situation. Change can be really hard. It is scary. Generally, the people who are the most unhappy fear change the most. Pearl S. Buck said that "all birthing is unwilling." That's how it is with change too. We may resist until there is a crisis or a wound that causes us to know that we MUST be willing to try a new way of being. Don't get caught in the trap of being someone who changes, but who does it too little or too late. The bright side of change is that there are great rewards for ones who take the leap of faith! I promise! There is the debate that people never really change. How truly sad that is for people to believe! Even the lowliest of gray moths evolve into colorful, magnificent butterflies! Every single one of us is capable of significant change. In my work as a personal coach, I see it each day. People do change when they are ready to do so and they live happier lives as a result.Sometimes change feels uncomfortable and makes us feel vulnerable. When working with clients I give them the following guidelines to develop that confidence muscle in handling personal change: 1. Look at the various perspectives of a situation. There is generally more than one way to view something. See the big picture. 2. Decide what changes need to be made and how you want to proceed. Commit to this process. REALLY commit. 3. Make a daily action plan to do just that. Steps do not have to be large, but they do need to be progressive. 4. Ask for support along the way. Transitions are difficult -- reach out to others and let them help you. Yes, you CAN do that! You have permission. :) 5. Always know that wherever you are right now is where you are supposed to be. The present is perfect. You are evolving and there is a gift in everything. Going with the flow of change is committing to lifelong learning and being present for the opportunities that come your way. Choose to look at change as a good thing! It is growth and just as other living species need to grow, so do we. Eleanor Roosevelt said, "You'll never be boring if you are never bored." If you are growing, you are definitely not boring! We are all works in progress. Without change we simply do not progress. The seasons do it, why shouldn't we? It's never been said more eloquently than in the Bible, Ecclesiastes 3:1 "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. "Enjoy the seasons of your life. Soul Restoration Tip Challenge! Think of a situation or a characteristic that you want to
change. Use the process above to implement a strategy in making a significant change.
