Connecting the Pieces of Our Past

I have had the interesting experience lately of meeting up again with someone from my past. It has brought up a lot of memories, laughs and a gentle tugging at the strings of my heart. Times are certainly different now and people can change. But you know what? When you have a deep connection, the friendship rarely changes.

Dr. Paul Pearsall, the author of The Heart's Code, explains that the heart has a cellular memory with stored information that pumps its way through our bodies. It is our heart, not our brain, that holds the secrets that link our bodies, minds and spirits. His work is fascinating and full of scientific data that is astounding.

I had the privilege of hearing Dr. Pearsall speak (a phenomenal presenter!) and he shows amazing footage over and over again of heart transplant recipients who take on the characteristics and mannerisms of their donors. He describes identical twins, separated at birth who grew up having almost the exact same lives, including what their adoptive families named them, their habits, careers, even the names of their wives. His theory is that these experiences are encoded in the heart.

Another example that was of twin infant girls. One twin was clearly not going to survive the traumatic birth -- her heart was failing -- and the parents were informed. As a final gesture of love a nurse put the healthy infant in the bassinet with the sick one. Within one minute, the healthy newborn snuggled up to the sick one -- even laid her arm around her (really! I saw the pictures of this!) in a protective manner. Within two minutes both girls hearts were beating in unison and the sick twin survived and thrived! Wow!

Although our lives are probably not as dramatic as that each day, this does serve as a reminder that our hearts are indeed connected and forever intertwined. History cannot change that. Moving cannot change that. Marital status or parenthood cannot change that. Illness cannot change that. Nothing can change a genuine connection. There are just some people to whom we are forever bound. Our hearts are intertwined and retain that cellular memory.

Think about calling someone after years of not being in touch. Aren't there just certain people with whom you can once again 'click'? After you spend a few minutes getting caught up on the details of life, you realize all over again that you are in sync. Your hearts beat in unison. You sing the same song. You just 'get' one another. Reconnecting melts away all obstacles in the way of authentic communication. It is effortless and natural.

If you have had this experience, then you know what I mean. If you have not, then let me challenge you to be brave and contact someone from your past who is significant to you. With a genuine connection, the person may even be thinking of calling you as well. Regardless, they will treasure the reconnection of spirit and so will you.

Try it.  If someone has blessed your life in a special way in the past, the chances are very good that they will do it again. And you can do the same for them. What a gift!

What Are We Waiting For?

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin -- real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that this was my life. This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one. So, stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Thought for the day: Work like you don't need money, Love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one's watching." ~ Alfred D. Sous

Resources You Can Use

The Heart's Code, Dr. Paul Pearsall. I cannot say it enough. This book is excellent -- a real eye opener between the scientific and the spiritual world. It gives a whole new meaning to the term "soul mate."

And for FUN! Check out Coloring Your Prayers by Carolyn Mannzi. It's coloring book for adults. I've been coloring and it is very therapeutic! The words are equally as beautiful. Great concept!
