Hello! I hope this finds each one of you doing
well! Welcome to you new subscribers! :)
As a follow-up to last weeks newsletter, I want to thank each one of you who emailed your thoughts on how you are creating your own Soulful Sabbaticals. I love the creativity and you inspire me! If you missed that issue, please visit the newsletter archives at www.BrightSideCoaching.com. Also be sure to bookmark our site as there are upgrades and additions in the works.
Speaking on those same lines, I would like to invite you to tune into Oprah next Monday (5/29/00). A colleague of mine, and the author of Take Time For Your Life, Cheryl Richardson, will be the guest. She is fabulous and will be challenging viewers to take extreme self-care and incorporate those things in life which nurture your soul. Don't miss it if you want to implement this idea further into your life!
One more thing ... thank you all for your kind
feedback concerning this
newsletter. Thank you mostly for recommending
it to others ... if you have not yet done so, please invite 2 new people to
subscribe. Growth is good! :) I do appreciate your support and invite you to
contact me directly if there is a subject you would like to see addressed in a future
issue.
With Love,
Beth

Getting the Goal!
I love to watch my son play soccer ... running down
the field, weaving the ball in and out of players and then shooting the ball toward the
goal with every bit of effort he can muster. Sometimes he makes it and sometimes
not. Watching from the sidelines, I can often see how he might have made the goal if
he had taken a different route or shot from another angle.
Isn't that the way it is with us too? Do you seem stuck or fall short just of your goals? Need a new strategy? No matter what your goals are ... finances, relationships, career, spiritual or emotional ... there are ways of increasing your odds of attaining them.
1. Find out what is that you really, really want. Not what you think you want. Or what you think you ~should~ want. And not what you think others want for you. What do YOU really want?
As a coach, I help clients get clear on this by helping them discover what their values are and then orienting themselves around them. Your values are what light you up. You are naturally drawn to them and they fulfill you. They are the things you do and when you look up at the clock time has just slipped away. They are fun and make life effortless. What are those things for you?
[Note: I have an assessment that can help determine what your values are. If you would like to receive a FREE copy email me at Beth@BrightSideCoaching with the subject TruValues. Please include either your fax number or your snail mail address.]
2. Simplify everything. Is it possible that you are not reaching your goals because you have too many balls in the air? How can you focus on any one thing when you have to focus on ten others? My suggestion is that you cut whatever you think is important by 50%. Radical? Yes. Does it produce results? Absolutely!
Think about it ... how many things do you find yourself doing that no longer serve who you are? Have you been on a committee one too many times? Are you tired of a colleague or neighbor taking advantage of you in some way? It's real simple ... start saying 'no.' If it is not benefiting you now, simplify your life to make space for growth. Use your energy for what matters most to you.
3. Add value for the joy of it. Whatever you do, do it well. Profoundly effect other people. Deliver more than they expect (in coaching this is called underpromise/overdeliver). Give. Make yourself an asset and invaluable to those around you. Help others along their journey and do it in the spirit of love, not with the intention if receiving anything in return. Not only does this support others, it will change you and little by little, it changes the world.
4. Mentally condition yourself. After you get very clear on what you REALLY, REALLY want write down your goals. Post them on your mirror in the bathroom, on the refrigerator and on the dash of your vehicle. Review them daily so that they remain foremost in your mind.
I also recommend writing out some affirmations and repeating them several times a day to yourself. When Jim Carrey was a broke and out of work actor he used to repeat to himself daily, "I'm the greatest actor in the world. I'm the greatest actor in the world." And when he began to believe it so did others and his career took off. Affirmations work! If you need some ideas about what to tell yourself, just email me at Beth@BrightSideCoaching.com with Affirmations in the subject line. I'll be glad to send you some to get you started.
Goals are often these elusive 'things' that we have going on for years. I challenge you to get serious about what you really want and begin to take action steps to get there. As you head toward your desires in life, be sure to remember that you are OK where you are right now. This is where you are meant to be for now, but it is NEVER the end of the road. Happy trails to you!

SOUL RESTORATION TIP:
"Nowhere is the weakness of a passive approach
to life more evident than in the wheel-spinning that comes as a result of not setting
goals. You can't get some place you've never been before without planning a
trip." ~
Napoleon Hill

RESOURCES YOU CAN USE:
Napoleon Hill's Keys to Positive Thinking, by Michael J. Ritt, Jr. 10 Steps to Health, Wealth and Success. Anything on Napoleon Hill is well worth the read. Yes, his books are dated, but the basic information is invaluable. What a pioneer!
Awaken the Giant Within, by Anthony Robbins. The motivational master!
The Portable Coach, by Thomas Leonard. Thomas is the founder of Coach University and it is his thoughts that developed the coaching business. The above are many of the basic coaching staples that he has taught.
The Courage To Give, Inspiring stories of people
who triumphed over tragedy to make a difference in the world. By Jackie Waldman with
Janis Leibs Dworkis. Wow! I'd love to know each one of these heroes!
