Welcome to this issue of The Bright Side! I hope this finds your 2004 off to a brilliant beginning  full of possibilities and dreams to strive for! I was looking over a list of things I have accomplished so far in 2004 and I am pleased. Some of them are small things and others will require more energy, but I have taken the beginning steps. That's all it really takes, is it not? Just begin  the momentum will follow. Starting in February, I have openings for two new coaching clients! Are you meant to be one of them? If interested, please email me and let me know how you think coaching might be a fit for you. I'll respond and we'll figure out what's next! NEW STUFF!

The Fayette Group For the past few years, I have had a great time offering behavior assessments to my clients and to small groups. That aspect of my work has expanded and is continuing to grow! I am having a ball working with clients all over the world and helping teams learn about powerful and effective communication techniques based on their natural personalities. I am pleased to share that I am going to be offering a brand new and exclusive (not to mention VERY COOL) assessment to individuals and groups very soon. I am currently in the certification class and will be ready to role as soon as I complete the course in March. Beam Me Up, Specialist Brian Mahoney!

Recently, I witnessed the most extraordinary moment that I want to share with you. I was boarding a plane headed out West. The aircraft doors shut and the captain's voice come over the intercom: Ladies and Gentleman, you may have noticed a young man here in the cockpit with us. This is Specialist Brian Mahoney. He's on his way home to see his family as he takes a two-week leave from military duty in Iraq. Please make him feel welcome as he makes his way through the cabin.? The airplane erupted in applause. Since I was seated in the first row of coach-class, I could look up the aisle and see a young boy, probably no more than 20 years of age, up in the cockpit. I knew from his very youthful face that he was going to make some Mama very relieved and happy when he showed up back home. I imagined she was home now fixing all his favorite foods and the homecoming celebration would be grand. The captain's voice came back on the intercom: Ladies and Gentleman. We thought you'd like to know that we don't generally show movies on this flight, but in honor of Specialist Mahoney traveling with us today we would like to show a movie. He has selected Pirates of the Caribbean. The flight attendants will now come through the cabin with complimentary headsets for everyone. Again, everyone clapped. From my vantage point, I could see Specialist Brian Mahoney grinning as he made his way back down the aisle, past my row. That was really nice, I thought, and I said a prayer for he and his family. Since this was a long flight, I had tried to upgrade my ticket and sit in first-class, but it was completely full. Nevertheless, I was sitting fairly comfortably in my bulkhead seat when I noticed an older gentleman in first-class stand up and begin walking down the aisle toward coach-class. I watched as he walked up to Specialist Brian Mahoney and they had a brief conversation. Then the gentleman stood there as the younger man gathered his things and went and took the man's seat in first-class. What a beautiful thing this man did! I am certain that Specialist Brian Mahoney had rarely, if ever, flown in first-class. He was BEAMING! From where I was sitting, I had the privilege of watching him order all the soda's he wanted, eat a good meal (remember, he was in first- class!) ;-) and watch his movie during our all-too-brief flight. It was a joy and I wondered if anyone else got to fully witness this exchange. As we were exiting the plane, I moved to the side where the gentleman who had given up his seat was. There was a really wonderful thing you did, I said. He just smiled and said, We all do wonderful things when we follow our hearts. I left the plane with my heart warm and my faith in mankind ignited. Who do you need to serve today? For no reason other than to give, whom do you need to support? What is one thing you can do right now that will make someone else beam? I want to encourage each of you to be a BEAMER  you too can follow you heart and help someone else to beam. Try it today. You'll be the blessing and you will be blessed too.
