Think Big about Healing: Principle #1

Principle # 1:

People, no matter what their afflictions may be, have the opportunity to be on their own unique path to healing.

_____

I would have to say that most people do not recognize the strength of the life force in them or the many ways it shows itself to them. Yet every one of us felt its power. We who doubt are covered with the scars of our many healings.

~ Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen

Have you ever seen people who just have that certain glow about them? They radiate this joyful aura and others clamor to be in their presence. I am sure you can think of at least one person you have known who is like that. What is interesting about people who have that glow is that very often they have had hardships and suffering in their lives. Yet, they manage to see beyond those difficulties and CHOOSE to live joyfully and peacefully.

So what is their secret? Besides the fact that they choose to live joyfully, their secret lies in that fact that no matter what, they are big thinkers and they know that all suffering is a part of life. They see the "big picture". They understand that life is a journey filled with ups and downs and we are all on certain paths headed to our unique destinations. Simply put, they have FAITH.

The Talmud says that "Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, "Grow, grow."??We are all here to grow in wisdom and love. We do this by winning and losing; by experiencing joy and grief; by having and not having; and by succeeding and failing.

A positive, proactive attitude toward yourself will make it easier to reclaim your holistic health. Quite simply, it is a conscious choice. Here are some conscious choices about healing in various aspects of life:

Resolving to get out of debt and living in full integrity.

Seeking a second opinion or alternative therapies for a medical condition.

Meditating or using prayer as a method of peace and healing.

Making and accepting apologies from those who we have harmed or who have harmed us.

Seeking counseling or therapy when we need it.

Grieving fully when we have to let go of those people and things we love, including dreams.

Making a conscious choice to live healthfully through self-care such as exercising and eating to live.

Embarking on that ever-elusive dream we keep talking about.

Getting serious about a spiritual or religious practice that is in alignment with our beliefs.

In most religious traditions, the power in suffering is connected to integrity and to wholeness. Healing and inner peace are spiritual qualities that are ours for the taking when we remember that each day is a stepping stone to something greater.

What can you think of in your life that is an opportunity to move toward a path of healing?
